Type 1 Diabetes Warning Signs
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can express itself at any age. The body’s immune system starts attacking the beta cells in the pancreas until there is little or none left. These beta cells are responsible for producing insulin to regulate blood glucose levels in the body.
There is no known cure yet. People diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes must take synthetic insulin through injections or a pump for the rest of their lives to regulate their blood glucose levels. They are Insulin dependent.
Type 1 Diabetes may happen quickly and unexpectedly so it is important to know the signs before it presents a possibly life threatening condition like Diabetic Ketoacidosis.
